The Public Law Center raised approximately $775,000 at its Volunteers for Justice Dinner June 14. The amount, coupled with the firm’s pro bono programming, adds more than $6 million in civil legal aid to Orange County.
The annual fundraiser also honored O’Melveny & Myers LLP as Law Firm of the Year and Kristopher R. Wood of Orrick, Herrington & Sutcliffe LLP as Attorney of the Year. The California Endowment was named Community Partner of the Year.
The program included an interview with state Supreme Court Justice Leondra Kruger by Kathleen E. O’Leary, presiding justice of the 4th District Court of Appeal. O’Leary is married to Kenneth W. Babcock, the Public Law Center’s executive director and general counsel. Proceeds from the annual event will be used to maintain the law center’s eight courthouse and community legal clinics, seven in-house legal units, pro bono placement program, impact litigation and advocacy campaigns.
