The California State Bar's litigation section and retailer Men's Wearhouse, based in Fremont, are collaborating on their 13th annual "Law Suits" clothing drive this month.

Men and women who give "gently worn" business attire get 50 percent off their next Men's Wearhouse purchase (with some exceptions), and the clothing collected goes to nonprofits that help unemployed people regain self-sufficiency. Donations are accepted throughout July at all of the chain's 103 California stores.

Clothing drive founder Norman J. Rodich, a partner at Orange County's Palmieri, Tyler, Wiener, Wilhelm & Waldron, says job applicants get a big psychological boost from wearing appropriate clothes to interviews. Being properly dressed can improve their chances of getting the job, he notes.

Lawyers in California donated more than 14,700 articles of clothing to the drive in 2013. But Law Suits has expanded beyond lawyers. Men's Warehouse took it nationwide in 2008, and last year collected and distributed more than 142,000 items of clothing.
